3D Penguins

I just wanted to share this with you. New York based 3D modeler and traditional sculptor Ryan Tottle did a beautiful job on my penguin designs (Ryan made them in Maya btw):

FB: Future Beavers From The Past

I felt like posting something: This is just a rough concept sketch in between... I really like the shape of the large spaceship in the background.

I did the basic roughs on paper - I then sketched digitally the rest of the rough process in Photoshop.

Future Beavers are quite wee creatures, aren't they? En passant, they're part of the StarDucks character ensemble...

BTW, this (below) paper walker, a sort of walking sculpture by Hitoshi Yamada, inspired the landing gear of the mothership in the background of the sketch:

I'm a big fan of Theo Jansen's walking sculptures. In case you wonder about Jansen's kinetic pieces, check out this link.

The Green Box

Here's a downscaled preview of the sheets I posted over at The Art Center... it's about a simple but effective way to get to know your own creation better.

The colours were picked from an ice pop ad:

Update: I added some fat brush concepts and tests to my recent post at the AC...

Self Portrait

Well, I definitely have some quirks...

Update: Here're some additional recent rough extracts from the same sample scribble for a bigger sujet titled "draw tank"... 'hope I'll finish that sometime soon:

Paper Worker

I was going through my rough sketches photo archive...

In view of the fact that I'm almost only using a graphic tablet lately, "real paper", "real pencils" and "real drawings" are on the decrease here.

I don't know but it's somehow sad...

If I recall correctly, some of the sketches here were part of my Nemoland exhibit last year, realised by the Accademia Nemo.

Inspiration: Jet Pack

Oh boy, I want one of those! I'll show you why with my next update here.

Update
Here's the signalized update. It wasn't the shape of the jet pack, but a sort of tune or feel that inspired the design below:

Furthermore, this horse skull was a quite useful reference, both for textures and shape. Even you can't see the horse skull in the final drawing, it's there...

Colour Concept Painting

Before I start working on the clean-up I often do a speed painting. And then from that I "extract" the colour palette for the final piece. Just now I'm working on the final line work of this large poster sujet... I'll will post the finished piece sometime soon.
