Toy

Update: I've to postpone the release to Friday evening or so due to that today's lunch break was too short to get everything done. So, the new motto is "Friday is toyday", or so I say:

----

"Thursday is toyday"
Come back on Thursday (December 2nd, 2010), 18:00pm CET (Central European Time), and you will get a toy to take home with you! Here on this blog!

Semi-Rough Sketch

This, then, is a nice example for a semi-rough sketch, it's much more definite than the samples I posted the other day.

Update: Here's a little winter colour inspiration. I took those shots in my hometown's city park, today in the early morning.

BTW, I'm in the – literally – lucky position to be buddy-buddy with 'Lucky Luke' artist Achdé, so, guess what I got in my mailbox, last week?:

Very, Very Rough Pre-Sketches

This is the roughness I usually start with. BTW, Uli is back blogging! And how! Check out this hand-drawn animation test gem:

Wings For Roger Windsock (Gene Deitch)

A little inspiration from the past. The design of "Wings for Roger Windsock" is BTW outstanding!

Screen shots:

Here's another classic, one of my personal educational film favourites BTW. John Sutherland's "A Is For Atom":

Live Broadcast II

Alright, another skipper right from my drawing desk, it's a kind of really rough silhouette test for this air bike copter thing. Let's see...

Here's an earlier version of this piece. I really liked the aerial gunners and the pilot-bird in the jockey pose, but, ultimately, the whole thing was too detailed to my taste:

Some influence came BTW from here and here.

Live Broadcast

This is quasi a "live broadcast" right from my drawing desk. It should be finished by Thursday or Friday, this week... I'll keep you posted on the progress.

This here below is BTW another rough piece from the same thing:

Sheets

These are a few samples of a selection of art sheets which were exhibited with original drawing size in the main hallway of the Austrian Academy of Sciences at this year's Pixel Conference, put together from the Nemoland exhibition 2009 and some newer things like my Birds & Pencils book.

Rough Sketch; Pixel 5, Party & Conference Pics

The first time ever that a bear launched a self-built satellite into orbit...

---
Update: Here are some snapshots of the Pixel Party. Top left is Jakob Schuh (co-director of "The Gruffalo", Studio Soi), top right Harald Siepermann (with whom I had way too much red wine), bottom left Saschka Unseld ("Toy Story 3", Pixar) who btw couldn't resist joining in the Pixel Battle game. The party, hosted right at the studio site of Vienna based CG power house Friendly Fire, was a really fun and hilarious get together. We got back to the hotel at about 5am :)

I guess, besides Nemoland in Florence, the Pixel is – in its category – one of the finest, warm and friendly festivals what we have here in Europe.

Here are some gems from the actual show: © Staber/Pixel
