Phileas Forger

May I introduce Mr. Phileas Forger, he is a sort of composite kind of character, literally meaning his mechanic body parts, and, in a transferred sense, meaning his temper, but most of all he is a fabulous blacksmith and a pretty important supporting figure in Toby Skybuckle I. He lost nose, chin and right hand while he was making dinner in his furnace, and not in that sanguinary battle with the barbarous steam-ogres, as some may believe.

The Perfidious Multi-Armed Mech-Rat

Another sheet out of my "inspired by" sketch book. (It's not hard to see that Jake Parker's Missile Mouse wielded influence on the design. Well, to be more accurate, I did this rat-character once before, but without that mech 'n' missile equipment and that retro-future-suit. Back then, I named the character Makepeace Thackertail aka The Rat in the Coat.)

The Great Befana

La Befana is a character in the italian folklore, similar to Heiliger Nikolaus or Santa Claus. La Befana visits the children in italy (where I am on holidays, at the present) on the night of 6th January to fill their shoes and socks with goodies. (The image above is a rough concept piece out of a pile of pre-design sheets, I did for Toby Skybuckle I)

The Level Cat

I just found this rough design on the harddrive of my notebook. I did this for one of the marketing departments of the gamehouse Ubisoft, somewhere along the line in 2005. There were plans to come up with a new game-rating character to promote kids-friendly games. I just know it was never made and that the cooperating magazine or agency involved would have prefered it in a more "manga-rish style".
