Monkey King StarDucks Branded; Nuke Sub Suit

Update: Another ruffy, the ACME Nemoland Nuke Sub Suit.

----
In a final step, I did a lot of re-editing on my Monkey King piece. I StarDucks-branded the whole thing a little with the assistance of this fellow bird character and a lot of motorpunkish appliances. Alright, colours will follow with the next update. BTW, cheers to Charles, Charlène, Josh and Attilio for the kind feedback on my rough things here. I'm always suprised that those unfinished sketches are that well-liked.

Vehicle Design: Rough Process

Here is another little insight into the rough process or very beginning of creating a vehicle. In this particular instance, it's a sort of prisoner transport craft with an unfolding chassis prison cabin.

Academy of Art Character Design Notes

Orlando based and former Disney artist Jennifer Gwynne Oliver just opened an interesting new blog which features discussion, inspiration, notes and links for her AAU students or anyone else interested in the art and craft of classical hand-drawn animation. Even my looney beaks attracted attention there. Lovely.

BTW, here is the brilliant sister blog Academy of Art Animation Notes by David Nethery. Cheers to Jennifer and David for their vision and efforts!

The Colour Picker

Dear fellow followers, in a very complex and highly elaborate process, this very bird converted the colours of some of your profile images into this beautiful colour palette. Thank YOU!

Hans Bacher Goes Alps

I'm glad and happy to be able to announce that Joey Schinwald and I succeeded in bringing Hans Bacher (IMDb), Annie Award winner and art director of Disney's MULAN and Amblin's BALTO, to Salzburg this October: A Week With Hans Bacher, October 11 - 17, 2010, Campus Urstein, University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, Austria.

"Hans Bacher is a rare person - a top of the tree professional artist, production designer, animator, archivist, and generous teacher."
Richard Williams, Animation Director of 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'

"I have been lucky to have known Hans Bacher and learned from his genius for over 30 years. When it comes to color, composition and design, Hans is in a class by himself."
Andreas Deja, Supervising Animator, Walt Disney Studios

Multifunctional Super Suit

These are some early sketches for a little side project I'm developing together with NYC based designer Tina Roth Eisenberg. It has to do with a duck and its super suit. In the final stages of the design, I focused more on the creative features of the suit than on the weird ones shown here. Anyway, I thought it would be nice to share those early steps of the process before they disappear in my archive...

PIXEL Art Battle: Sketch2

This is the sister rough concept sketch of the previous posting. Clean-up follows...

Update: The other day, I edited the Monkey King blueprint in order to make it more Motorpunk-ish:

Corporate Colours: Pixel 5

It's fair to say that this could be a textbook example for working with corporate colours and symbols :) BTW, if you're in the Vienna area this November I hope to see you at the PIXEL 5 - The Annual Austrian Conference on Computer Graphics and Animation, Austrian Academy of Science, November 5th-7th 2010.

At the conference, there will be held an exhibition of original sketches and finished artwork presenting the never before shown StarDucks© initiation short story.
