COAT OF SMILES, parody art of iconic symbols. A duck's hat, a mouse's ears and a smiling yellow button. Three iconic things brought together in one artwork.

Donald Duck's earliest appearance (1932), re-created (2020)

I tried to blank out completely Donald Duck's visual evolution through the past 90 years, by just focusing on his earliest design, from 1932. I already had posted this, but anyways, I felt like reposting it. Enjoy your weekend, everyone.
However, since the weather became really bad over here, I'm thinking about watching an animated feature, today, which I haven't done for quite a while. Suggestions're highly welcome, no matter if classic or modern. Thanks!

Duckland 2: Cast-Out Material, Rough Colour Sketches

Another rough thingy I was taking a shot at. Eventually, it became way too obscure and gritty. The character's shape is okay, but gets completely consumed by the machine's silhouette. It's a good example for how to ruin a character design with gadgetry.

Things That Made Me: Pif Gadget

A couple of months ago, at great surprise, I was approached by French magazine 'Pif, le mag' to create a homage to the magazine's name-giving character Pif, in the form of a one-pager. What you need to know here is, that the magazine's German and Scandinavian spin-outs 'YPS' and 'Jippo' were major parts of my childhood and so were the adventures of 'Pif et Hercule'.

This here is the first panel of the one pager I did. Of course, I portrayed myself as a duck.

'Pif, le mag', from now at newsstands and book stores across France, nationwide.

Donald Doom

Dear doomed sketchbook, this was just for my personal relaxation as well as for stress reduction and for fun. No deeper meaning included.

Zanuck Family Entertainment

What a pleasure that was working with them, it really was, not only because of the production's thrillingly unique type but also because of the Zanuck Family Entertainment's head Rick Calabash, who's without doubt one of the most caring and adept creative executives I ever worked with. At one point in the production process, due to the time shift between L.A. and Europe, he kept his Skype all night open to make sure to be able to receive my workings real time and to provide me instantly feedback.

However, during this very time, for the simple pleasure of it, I did this speed colour sketch, spoofing one of Universal Studios' and Zanuck's most noted films, JAWS. I remember that the film poster's iconic colours and layout kind of jumped over to my wacky sketch almost by itself.

Customized Daffy Duck Model Sheet

This is a WB Daffy Duck studio model sheet I customized a little when I worked for Warner Bros. Worldwide Publishing, a million years ago. I added one of my own Daffy Duck designs to it, the one with the rocket and the off-model yellow hand gloves. All other drawings are Chuck Jones' original character layouts. This was for (my) internal use only.

Daffy Duck by Sylvain Rota

This is the best Daffy Duck 3D interpretation I ever stumbled upon, by far. The 3D artist's name is Sylvain Rota, and he's from France. I couldn't find much about him or his work, but however, this Daffy made my day and tomorrow.
