COAT OF SMILES, parody art of iconic symbols. A duck's hat, a mouse's ears and a smiling yellow button. Three iconic things brought together in one artwork.

But what if ...?

But what if Carl Barks had chosen Frank Lloyd Wright or the Brutalist Architecture Movement as reference for Donald Duck's home? Probably, he would have changed the course of suburban lifestyle :-)

Club hat

My plan is to travel across the alps to France on an elephant unicorn, taking this unfinished painting with me. I'll keep you posted about this endeavour.

"If I was a bird, ..."

If Donald Duck would have to audition for his role as Donald Duck, he certainly would f**k it up beyond belief.

This is an early rough visual development test bit from a foxy project in cooperation with my pal and well-tried Disney writer Denis-Pierre Filippi. Certainly, this very bit here has nothing to do with the actual story/project, it was done for warm-up reasons of sorts, playing with the character, exploring a/the style. An exploration thingy all through.

Duct-ed Duck

Do you remember the duct-taped duck from 2019? The duck's mood changed from surprise to pure annoyance, now. Even the new paper hat couldn't cheer him up.
I could calm him down a little, with the help of a Sharpie.
Below: I placed the original sketch kit and the finished piece in juxtaposition. For the three dimensional body effect I put a potato (cut in half) to use. I think the last time I did this - except for cooking of course - was in Kindergarten or primary school. However, as you can see, the potato has already completely dried-out, the original artwork is slowly collapsing.

Well aged paper and rocket science

This is a preliminary sketch of a narky rocket science duck, from2014/15 or so, to which I added some rough digital shading. However, I love the touch the well aged paper gives to the drawing, now.

Why waiting for the "Art of" book ...

At regular intervals, until the show's official opening in spring, I will post unused concept artwork of the production, here.

Like this rough layout test, one of the (many) ideas I had for the promotional poster sujet, which in the end turned out quite too detailed and the featured character was way too small. The exhibit's executive producer politely suggested a sujet with more visual impact qualities.
I am still amazed at what shading adds to a sketch, even the roughest use of it.
