Monkey King StarDucks Branded; Nuke Sub Suit

In a final step, I did a lot of re-editing on my Monkey King piece. I StarDucks-branded the whole thing a little with the assistance of this fellow bird character and a lot of motorpunkish appliances. Alright, colours will follow with the next update. BTW, cheers to Charles, Charlène, Josh and Attilio for the kind feedback on my rough things here. I'm always suprised that those unfinished sketches are that well-liked.

The Monkey King, Transformed

I was invited by dear colleague and good pal Su Haitao to participate in the book project 72 Transformations: Concept Designs for the Monkey King, doing my very own interpretation of the popular Chinese character. I thought it would be nice to share a work-in-progress piece here on the blog.

My idea, however, was to put the character not in a typical Monkey King action or combat scene but something more "behind the scenes". The hero inserts his famous flying cloud (with the assistance of a - for me typically - Steampunk insert-apparatus) right inside a kind of a giant lindworm or wingless dragon in order to make the monster be able to fly and to apply it as a chic sky-roadster with a nice Steampunk-ish cockpit attachment.

The complete process and the final artwork will be shown exclusively in the book.
