Willie!

The boat here is intentionally much smaller than in the original film, in order to make Mickey – or rather Willie – appear much larger in relation to the steamboat (comparable – a little – to the African Queen, in terms of boat size) to fit everything neatly onto a portrait-format drawing sheet.

Cardboardboat Willie

As a child I had the idea of building a ship out of cardboard, which I would then coat on the outside with candle wax to make it waterproof and seaworthy.

Duck Review

Here is a lovely recent review (in German) from the culture section of the newspaper Nürnberger Nachrichten towards the show "Enten, die sich in Raketen retten", which is on display until the end of July in the exhibition rooms of the Erlangen Comic Museum, Erlangen, Germany.
