COAT OF SMILES, parody art of iconic symbols. A duck's hat, a mouse's ears and a smiling yellow button. Three iconic things brought together in one artwork.

Rough preliminary sketches

Rough preliminary sketches for the poster design of the exhibition "Enten, die sich in Raketen retten" (Ducks, who save themselves in rocket ships), Comic Museum Erlangen, June 3rd - July 31st 2026. Still completely without titles etc. The silhouette of the rocket ship is – very loose – based on Donald Duck's houseboat from "The Little Wise Hen" from 1934. And there's a little bit of Gaston's Fiat 509 (André Franquin) in it too.

Please note: The photos of Donald Duck's house boat and Gaston Lagaffe's car are copyrighted © by their respective owners. All rights reserved. The photos are used here for reference only.

Ducks, who save themselves in rocket ships

The Comic Museum Erlangen is presenting an exhibition titled "Enten, die sich in Raketen retten" offering a deep dive into my duck-related work. And not only that. But the duck and rockets bias is undeniable. Hence the title, which in English roughly translates to "Ducks, who save themselves in rocket ships".

The exhibition runs from June 3rd to July 26th, 2026, coinciding with the opening of the International Comic Salon Erlangen, where there will also be a panel about the exhibition.

More information will follow shortly. This is just to warm up the rocket engines.

Rocket: "ACME Meets Carl Barks meets Franquin", a parody on Donald Duck's iconic 313, equipped with things from the ACME warehouse and inspired by Andre Franquin's vehicle design artistry.
