COAT OF SMILES, parody art of iconic symbols. A duck's hat, a mouse's ears and a smiling yellow button. Three iconic things brought together in one artwork.

Travelling Exhibition: Of Critters, Ducks And Dragons

Update (SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11): John posted here the finished sculpt of the birdish dragon thing. I really like how John and Fausto added a little of their own flavour. I did btw this very character - I'm talking of the drawn one - for a children's book which supports a non-smoking campaign. That book should be published next month or so...

----

Alright, and here's the originally post about the exhibition things:

I will post the dates, venue and things as soon as I get the details. Cheers to the great people of the Accademia Nemo for the generous support!

This nice piece was sculpted by the fab Paolo Chiari, btw.

Spider Man's Drawing Request And A Look Back On Nemoland 2009

Today, I do a double-post or a two parts entry of sorts.

Part one: Fellow colleague and good friend Francisco Herrera (Spider Man, Superman) asked me do a very own pin-up drawing on one of his characters for his next book. And here's the fruit, the ACME Wondermotorbra 3000D-T (coming with a built-in tea cooking feature):

I really do like space around the characters, much space. The original background I painted was that size:

The roughs, finally:

Part two: A look back on Nemoland 2009 in pictures

This is the Nemoland Award 2009 statue I got from the Accedemia Nemo, wonderfully rendered by the fabulous Paolo Chiari:

Fellow animator and comic artist Flaviano Armentaro and me in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Sala Luca Giordano. Fab' place, absolutely. This was, btw, the very place where they gave me the dragon statue:

Nemoland family portrait 2009. From right: Super duper director and animator Alex Orrelle (Finding Nemo, Incredibles), me, Sire Giuliano Cenci (Grisu, Calimero), Paolo Chiari (master of trolls and dwarfs) and Luca Chiarotti (Accademia Nemo).

Some pics from the exhibition in the Gipsoteca Fiorentina will follow. I'm still stunned by the appeal and the impact of this very spot. It was indeed a magic place to let my ducks 'n' critters out...

The Show's Over...

It was a wonderful time here, absolutely. I'll miss everybody very much... and I will try to post more on this fab' week in Florence as soon as I'm back to Austria. And finally, btw, I had this very steak. Gosh, what a bloody beast, J.P.!!
