JP Vine at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg: NOV 3-4, 2011

After last year's visit of Hans Bacher (the students are still going into rhapsodies about Hans' visit), this year my fellow artist friend JP Vine ("Wallace & Gromit", "Chicken Run", "Shaun the Sheep") is following our invitation and is coming over for a talk and workshops at Campus Urstein. Jolly good, isn't it!

Here's BTW a lovley piece of animation JP designed and directed at Crew972, enjoy:

The Newest Gimmicks from the Past

Apropos "The Chain of Inspiration", here's a pretty good example by what many of my absurd bird-controlled machines and communication devices get inspired. (Photo via Modern Mechanix)

Beetlejuice Costume; Yinka Shonibare

Update: Hahaha, this is drop-dead hilarious, a Beetlejuice themed Halloween costume! (via Super Punch)

----

In connection with this year's CTN Animation Expo maxim "The Chain of Inspiration" I thought it would be a nice idea to link here - on a non-regular basis - to non-animation artists who inspire me to create. Today, I begin with Yinka Shonibare:

Gossamer?

Okay, this red skipper is off-model, a little.

By the by, in my opinion those kind of large-scale characters work beautifully as cover sujets. Like with this test thingy here:

PIXEL Afterthought: Conference Interviews

Vienna based Martin Lorenz did really nice interviews with my buddy Christian de Vita (lead story artist of 'The Fantastic Mr Fox') and Andreas Deja (superduper animator of Disney fame) in connection with their talks at the Pixel Conference. The interviews are well worth a read:

Pixel 7 Sneak Preview: Colossal Battle Motorsuit

Last weekend, I did a quick battle poster rough cast for next year's 7th Pixel Conference. I used the 7's shape as a kind of base frame... the finished piece will follow sometime next year, I just wanted to put the idea down in a sketch preventively.

Update: And here's some fun for your lunch break, today (via Flooby Nooby):

Drawing Process Clip (Paperwalker TV)

I accidently recorded only parts of the Motorbambi drawing process. Anyway, I pieced a clip together from the parts I saved. 'Hope you like it still...

Apropos Motorbambi: Here's a hilarious pic I stumbled across at Superpunch, a dog in an AT-AT costume:

HOW NOT to draw Disney's Bambi

...but being inspired by the original character nonetheless. Voila, a birdish Motorbambi or something like that:

PIXEL 6 Poster Artwork

The 6th installment of the Annual International Austrian Conference on Computer Graphics & Animation is just around the corner. Disney's Andreas Deja, Fantastic Mr Fox' Christian de Vita, Framestore's Martin Aufinger, Blizzard Games' Simon Yuen and many, many more "uber-bricks" will be in the house. So, if you're in the Vienna area this weekend check out this pretty unique event, located in the beautiful Academy of Sciences Palace: PIXEL 6, OCT 07 -09 2011, Vienna. See you there!

By the by, here's the complete break down process of this piece and the colour palette I was using:

Motorbirds T-Shirt: Please Help Me to Decide

Alright, here are two rough Motorbirds design blueprints but only one is needed for a t-shirt which will be available at TeeBlitz within a short time. Unfortunately, I've not the time to clean-up both of them, so please help me to pick the right one: #1 or #2? Please vote in the poll to the right in my blog's sidebar. THANKS! It is most appreciated.

Thanks, everyone, for voting and commenting! The poll is closed now and, obviously, the Motorglobeship won, hurray! By virtue of my office and for and in consideration of your votes I will clean-up #1! Great!

Paperwalker TV: New Episode!

I recorded my warm-up sketch this morning. It's a bird, surprise! The bird's eyebrows are copyrighted, in fact, by Uli Meyer, aren't they? ;)
