As I do not have any new stuff to show on this very day, I put this oldie on the blog. A rough animation layout test I did for a cartoon series pitch, some years ago. I posted this piece here once before. Sorry for the re-run.
BTW: BG/layout work is quite important to my character designs. It is fair to say that I draw the place before I draw the characters. Or more philosophical: I form the characters from within the scene.
Update: Talking of old things, here's another rough one. Two racing pilots of sorts. If I remember rightly, the Chinese ideograph means "path" or "route".
Marvellous, indeed.
ReplyDeleteah man, might be an oldie, but fresh for me ^^ I really like the bg's, lots of texture and nice feel of depth too them.
ReplyDeleteoldies are good too :) nice stuff mate!!
ReplyDeleteDerek, Mehdi! :)
ReplyDeleteJon, Simon, big thanks. Actually, we did a test animation with those layouts. I will see if I can find and post it...
Oh nice, really really be interested in seeing any line test you might have with your characters, currently in my 2nd yr of animation so always looking for inspiration. And your style totally lends itself to my childhood characters i grew up with.
ReplyDeleteYet just seeing the ideals and concepts you post is really nice too. Keep up the awesome work.
Great inspiration stuff indeed! Love the background one!
ReplyDeleteHeh Florian! Ich nehm deine Farbpaletten und Bilder in meinen UNterricht für die Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien über Comickoloration rein! :-) Ich hoffe das is dir recht

Klingt toll, sehr gerne. Alles Gute dafuer :)
ReplyDeletethe bkg before the character...this is so interesting....can the bkg influences the character look, or can the character's personality be indipendent despite the bkg he act in?
ReplyDeletemumble...interesting my friend interesting...
those chinese pilots are about to do something evil, i know!
;P
Flaviano! I suppose that characters are a notch above if I know/draw the place where they live/act before. But I'm still not quite sure how it really works :)
ReplyDelete...this need an experiment!
ReplyDeleteok now i try to do some acting here...like....i fall on a banana peel, then i try do do the same thing on a different stage....like....
..the moon! ok i try to fall on a banana peel on the moon. i only need a camera and some guy to film it. so get your camera, set two seats on the rocket in your garage and follow me.
we gonna fall on a banana to the moon!!!!!
Keep re-running all you want Florian. Great is great, even the second time around.
