COAT OF SMILES, parody art of iconic symbols. A duck's hat, a mouse's ears and a smiling yellow button. Three iconic things brought together in one artwork.

PLEASE NOTE, the displayed parody artworks of classical cartoon characters are not copies but distinct satiric imitations/caricatures, by exaggerating and transforming the original characters and their related indica (see 'Coat of Smiles') in a way that creates new originals and new meanings, different from the intentions of the originals.

Prescribing Bambi, Increasing Empathy

Image courtesy of Disney, all rights reserved.

David Berry Jr, a poacher from Missouri, was arrested last August with his father and brother for killing hundreds of deer, taking their heads and leaving the bodies. Judge Robert George ordered him to watch the Walt Disney movie Bambi at least once a month during his time in prison (via).

"Cinema, like all art forms, is an empathy machine: it expands our perspective and invites us to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes – or hooves, in the case of Bambi."
Ryan Gilbey

Rarely Seen Photographs Capturing Walt Disney

By the way, these are historical photographs, smoking was considered completely common around that time, I'm not revealing any "secrets" about Walt Disney here nor showing him up. I'm always glad to stumble across photos capturing the person Walt Disney, I'm not interested in the larger-than-life, artificial icon he became after his passing.

Rare Photograph: Walt Disney

This is a shot of Walt Disney I really like. To me, this photo portrays Disney not as everbody's uncle but as the entrepreneur or manager he was.

Walt Disney: World's Fair 1964 NYC

I really do love those backstage films from the past.

While I'm on posting an older clip, here's one of my most favorite student films I've seen the last years: "Who's Hungry?" by David Ochs

Here are the show reactions to Ochs' film:

Last but not least, I put up a link to a short clip about Thierry Martin, a French comic artist who I admire very much. Even though the clip is in French, Thierry's talent is easy to understand ;) Btw, you can check out his personal weblog here.
